On June 20, 2025, San Francisco officials and members of the LGBTQ+ community unveiled the AIDS Memorial Quilt exhibition at the San Francisco International Airport. This event, featuring speakers such as Cleve Jones, the quilt’s creator, and Gert McMullin, a dedicated contributor since its inception, highlighted the quilt's significance in memorializing those lost to AIDS. Mayor Daniel Lurie recalled Jones's vision initiated during a vigil for Harvey Milk, which led to the creation of the quilt. The display is accessible to everyone until March 22, 2026, in the International Terminal.
The exhibit is free and open to all visitors, no boarding pass required, in the International Terminal though March 22, 2026.
In 1985 at a candlelight vigil held in memory of Harvey Milk, Cleve had a vision, a way to mark the overwhelming loss of life due to AIDS.
