Trans rights protests held in cities across the UK
Briefly

The UK witnessed a surge of protests over the weekend, responding to a Supreme Court ruling that defined 'woman' legally as excluding trans women. Thousands, including trans and non-binary individuals, rallied in major cities like London and Edinburgh, arguing that the decision is discriminatory. Critics fear this ruling could negatively affect trans rights and access to safe spaces. Demonstrators emphasized that the ruling does not clarify rights but rather contributes to existing inequalities, showcasing the unity and solidarity within the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
In London, an estimated 20,000 demonstrators gathered in the capital's centre for an 'emergency demonstration.' Members of the public were pictured marching alongside each other with signs promoting trans liberation and LGBTQ+ rights.
Speaking to co-organisers Resisting Transphobia in Edinburgh (RTiE), poet and protestor Ellie Mental said the demonstration proved: 'Where they need to bus in a couple hundred to fill out their little hate meets, thousands organically show up to support us.'
