The legendary Bay Area chocolatier supplying See's Candies and Chez Panisse
Briefly

The Guittard Chocolate Company, established in 1868 by Etienne Guittard, has become an iconic name in chocolate production. Located in Burlingame, California, the factory produces over 70 types of chocolate products, including popular chocolate chips and wafers, distributed widely across supermarkets. Generational family leadership continues with the Guittard descendants running the business now. Their products are not only loved by home bakers but also utilized in renowned Bay Area restaurants. The company’s rich history is showcased in their lobby, which holds memorabilia reflecting Guittard’s long-standing legacy in the chocolate industry.
"We always say you've probably had more Guittard in your life than you realize," chief marketing officer Amy Guittard said.
It’s a busy afternoon at the Bay Area chocolatier when Amy and her father, company President Gary Guittard, greet me in the lobby, which feels like a mini museum.
Gary walks over to a wooden cabinet storing his grandfather Horace C. Guittard's floral, porcelain hot chocolate pitcher and matching cups.
That’s the one I grew up with as a kid," Gary said, holding the can featuring an illustration of a guitar.
