For the Escarrias-petite sisters of African descent born ten months apart in Cali, Colombia-commercial photography was in their family DNA. Their parents established a studio in their hometown that was overseen by their mother after their father's early demise. Sheetz, the chain of gas stations, has announced on Facebook that its former president, CEO, and chairman of the board, Stephen G. Sheetz, has passed away at the age of 77. He was the younger brother of Bob Sheetz, who originally founded the chain in 1957, which Stephen then took over as CEO in 1984 and ran until 1996. Sheetz began working at his brother's eponymous company when he was just 12 years old.

After 116 years in Berkeley, Walter Mork Company is closing its doors. The custom metal fabrication shop has survived two world wars, the Great Depression, and countless ups and downs in the economy. Twenty U.S. presidents have been elected since Walter Mork, a Finnish immigrant, opened the shop in West Berkeley in 1909. And four generations of the Mork family have worked there.
California-based Gaviña Coffee Company announced that two of its longtime leaders - brothers Pedro Lázaro Gaviña and Francisco Marcos "Paco" Gaviña - have died. Paco died July 29 at the age of 81. Pedro died Sept. 11 at the age of 80. Representing the third generation of the Gaviña business, which traces its roots back to Cuba, the brothers were instrumental in building the company into a national coffee supplier while maintaining close ties to the industry through volunteerism and events.
Naomi Romo holds deep appreciation for the work her parents have put into Anghelo's Suit & Tux in Miami, Florida. "I am sitting here today because of the dreams and all the effort put into this family vision," Romo says. Romo's parents, Anghelo and Monica, founded the men's wear and tailoring business in 2013; today Romo works with them as co-owner. "Being surrounded by my family business, it has been a part of me ever since I can remember," she says.
The world-famous Wonder Wheel, the centerpiece of the park, was built in 1920. Standing 15 stories tall and weighing 200 tons, its owners say it has given more than 35 million rides in its lifetime while maintaining a perfect safety record. The Wonder Wheel was designated a New York City landmark in 1989. The Vourderis family purchased it in 1983 after years of operating food stands along the boardwalk.
For some people, there's value in having clear boundaries between work and family. But I believe that integrating my personal and professional lives was the best way to grow this business. Ultimately, I was doing this for my daughter and other kids, and I knew the best business would be born from melding my family and business.
