Authorities arrested eight men for the January shooting of Wilson Martinez-Vasquez, a victim of gang violence in San Jose. Police Chief Paul Joseph explained that the suspects, associated with a Norteno gang connected to several fatalities in Monterey County, randomly targeted Martinez-Vasquez while attempting to eliminate rival gang members. Following a thorough investigation, aided by technology such as automated license plate readers, the police secured arrest warrants for the suspects. Chief Joseph assured the community that their reign of terror had been halted and safety restored.
The eight men targeted the San Jose neighborhood in an attempt to kill rival gang members but their victim was random, without hesitation, took his life.
They never thought they would answer for their carefully planned game: assassination roulette.
To the people of San Jose, I want you to know we have stopped their reign of terror; they will not be returning.
The investigation was also assisted by automated license plate readers and video surveillance.
