PG&E began shutting off power to thousands in the Bay Area due to strong winds and fire weather concerns, potentially affecting up to 5,000 additional customers.
The utility’s Bay Area office noted that fire weather concerns will only increase due to compounding effects of dry air and strong winds, raising the risk of wildfires.
With overnight humidity drops reported in North and East Bay and wind gusts reaching up to 75 mph, PG&E is proactively cutting power to prevent wildfire risks.
PG&E representative JD Guidi mentioned the utility has already shut off electricity for 15,000 customers statewide, highlighting the significant risk in California's dry conditions.
