NASA's SpaceX Crew-10 is now targeting no earlier than late March 2025 for launch, requiring additional time for the new Dragon spacecraft's processing.
Steve Stich noted, 'Fabrication, assembly, testing, and final integration of a new spacecraft is a painstaking endeavor that requires great attention to detail.'
Each option for bringing the existing crew back was assessed, but the determination was made to extend their mission rather than use existing spacecraft.
The delay means astronauts Wilmore and Williams will extend their stay in space from a planned week to approximately nine months due to launch timing.
