"There are great conferences that are enormous, and part of it is just the sprawl and scale of it, and there are great conferences that are tiny that are really a personalized experience. I think we're trying to fit in the middle of it where meeting with people that attend is just as much a part of the actual conference content, announcements, and using the tech."
Microsoft is relocating its annual Build developer conference from Seattle to Fort Mason in San Francisco, aiming to capture the city's AI momentum and create a more intimate experience. The event will be held June 2-3 instead of the typical May timing. Attendance will be capped at 2,500 developers, down from the previous 3,000-5,000 attendees. This smaller scale allows for more personalized interactions between attendees and conference content. GitHub's chief operating officer Kyle Daigle explains the strategy seeks a middle ground between enormous sprawling conferences and tiny personalized events, where networking and personal meetings are integral to the conference experience itself.
