A Lake Como chef and his popular pizzeria move to the Peninsula for love.
Briefly

Farouq, a chef from Italy, found inspiration in his wife, Sarika Batra, and their cross-cultural relationship. They met in Milan in 2018 and maintained a long-distance romance for two years, relying on Google Translate to bridge language barriers. Batra's love for Northern Italy culminated in a move to California, where Farouq opened a new kitchen. His cooking blends Northern Italian traditions with influences from his Moroccan heritage, creating a unique culinary experience that resonates with their shared love for diverse cultures.
"Sometimes you meet [someone] for the first time in your life and you feel like you've known them for 30 years. That's how we were," says Farouq.
"It's kind of exciting. The newness is always there," Batra recalls about their long-distance relationship.
Farouq describes his style of cooking as Northern Italian and also uniquely Cardamomo, blending influences from his Moroccan roots.
Batra suggested moving to California, noting it didn't take much convincing since Farouq loves the energy of California.
