They cited violent clashes and hate crime offences at a Maccabi Tel Aviv match in Amsterdam in 2024. The Home Office has offered West Midlands police extra support to ensure the match can go ahead with all fans, with ministers piling pressure on officers to reverse the ban."
Ed Miliband insisted Villa Park cannot be a no-go area for Jewish people and called for the ban on Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters to be lifted. Ministers are working to enable the Israeli club's fans to attend the Europa League fixture on 6 November. Birmingham's safety advisory group will consider proposals on additional police resources required to host away fans safely. West Midlands police initially barred the supporters citing safety concerns and past violent clashes in Amsterdam in 2024. The Home Office has offered extra support and ministers are urging the force to reverse the ban. Aston Villa told some stewards they need not work the fixture due to concerns.
