According to the report by Victim Support, three-quarters of survivors of sexual violence are subjected to harmful rape myths during cross-examination, re-traumatizing victims.
One survivor described the court experience as feeling like "a piece of meat being pulled through the court system." This highlights the intense emotional toll of the judicial process.
The lengthy wait times for cases, averaging about three years for adults, exacerbate the trauma faced by victims, leading to increased issues such as PTSD and suicidal thoughts.
Approximately one in four women and one in 18 men have experienced sexual violence since the age of 16, illustrating the widespread nature of this issue.
