Disney+ has implemented a 'paid sharing program' akin to Netflix, designating users outside a household as 'extra members' for an added fee, thus cracking down on password sharing.
The 'extra member' option adds $6.99 for Basic subscribers and $9.99 for Premium users, further increasing costs as Disney+ is expected to raise prices next month.
Disney+ identifes households based on primary IP address, allows temporary access while traveling with a one-time passcode, and can adjust location through an 'update household' feature.
This initiative follows Netflix's own crackdown, which reportedly led to an increase in subscriptions. Other platforms like Max also plan to address password sharing in the near future.
