It took a while for the harsh reality to set in. After seven years, Butler's time with Connacht was over.
'Initially, I was a little bit surprised,' Butler tells the Irish Independent. 'But you can see your position playing out with different guys coming in and the way the back-row was being built, you kinda read the writing on the wall.'
'The hardest part of being a sports person is guys are always moving...you have to appreciate where they are coming from.'
'Would I like to have stayed? Yeah. But then I also understand that it gets to a stage where that becomes a little bit harder.'
