Rubrik's CEO let 800 employees sit in on board meetings - and he says it supercharged the company
Briefly

For the first seven to eight years, Rubrik's CEO Bipul Sinha invited all employees to board meetings, promoting transparency and fostering open communication. This approach allowed up to 800 staff members to engage, ask questions, and contribute to discussions, creating alignment and responsibility within the company. Despite initial skepticism from some VCs and executives regarding this format, Sinha's strategy proved integral to Rubrik's culture. Eventually, the meetings were closed in light of the company's IPO in April 2024, valuing it at $19 billion, highlighting a shift towards more traditional corporate practices.
We put the board meeting in a large conference room. We let people sit on the ground if needed. People could ask questions, so it was not a webinar style.
It is a direct result of this idea of transparency that really created alignment and velocity. Everybody knew where we are going and what needed to be done.
There were no sacred cows and no information control. Everybody can demand answers, and when people demand answers, then people also become very responsible.
It was a little non-intuitive for them initially. Sometimes you don't realize how many people are on the call, and we would have discussions about an individual.
