European Commission ends state aid case against Amazon with no tax payout
Briefly

The European Commission announced the closure of three state aid investigations, including one involving Amazon, effectively ending a long legal battle regarding back taxes.
The Commission previously found that from 2006 to 2014, Amazon used a Luxembourg-based company to lower its tax payments in the EU by avoiding taxes on three-quarters of its profits.
After winning an appeal against the Commission in 2021, Amazon argued that its tax structure complied with international tax principles and no competitive advantage was gained.
Following the EU Courts' guidance, the European Commission decided to drop the case against Amazon, marking a setback for the Commission after earlier successes against other tech giants.
