John Krafcik, ex-CEO of Waymo, expressed skepticism regarding Tesla's Robotaxi, especially given the requirement of a safety monitor within the vehicle. He noted that until Tesla can provide a genuinely driverless taxi service, which they have yet to do, the current rollout does not meet true autonomy standards. Tesla's service recently launched in the Bay Area under an invite-only format, with plans for further accessibility. Krafcik emphasized that having an employee in the car contradicts the notion of a true robotaxi, as he awaits a genuine deployment in this realm.
"Please let me know when Tesla launches a robotaxi - I'm still waiting," Krafcik told Business Insider. The presence of an employee inside the car is proof that Tesla has yet to show off a real robotaxi service.
Krafcik stated, "If they were striving to re-create today's Bay Area Uber experience, looks like they've absolutely nailed it," about Tesla's Robotaxi launch.
