Samsung DeX is a feature that enables Samsung smartphone users to connect their devices to monitors or TVs for a more computer-like experience. While the function has seen upgrades since its 2017 release, it often goes unrecognized by users. The experience is straightforward for compatible devices, primarily high-end Galaxy S and Note series phones. Testing the Galaxy S25 Ultra with DeX revealed that it can handle productivity tasks, though it may not completely replace a laptop for all users, especially due to its limitations and compatibility issues.
Samsung DeX, widely underused and under-advertised, transforms Samsung smartphones into desktop-like experiences but faces limitations and compatibility issues affecting its user experience.
Despite its capabilities, Samsung DeX remains underappreciated among users, yet it showcases the potential of smartphones to function as standalone computing devices.
I tested using the Galaxy S25 Ultra with Samsung DeX solely for my workflow, determining that it is not an outright replacement for laptops but serves well for specific tasks.
Getting Samsung DeX operational is easy with supported devices, and the performance is notably improved with a wired connection, maintaining efficiency for users seeking mobile flexibility.
