Intel's CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, has outlined a plan focusing on increased in-office work, layoffs, and leaner teams following a tumultuous leadership transition. His memo emphasizes efficiency, reducing administrative tasks, and a shift in performance indicators away from team size. As the company struggles with flat revenue and losses, Tan's leadership aims to revamp corporate culture and operational efficiency. Mandatory office days will increase to four, meetings will be cut, and the previous OKR framework will be made optional.
The most important KPI for many managers at Intel has been the size of their teams. Going forward, this will not be the case. The best leaders get the most done with the fewest people.
I am instructing our leaders to eliminate unnecessary meetings and significantly reduce the number of meeting attendees. Too much valuable time is being wasted.
