Kakao received a threatening message at about 11:15 a.m. alleging a homemade explosive device had been placed at its Pangyo "Ajit" office building in Seongnam. The sender identified himself as a high school dropout and warned of possible additional attacks targeting Kakao executives and employees. The message demanded money be deposited into a specified account and threatened further action, including a threat directed at Kakao's Jeju office, if payment was not made. Kakao reported the message to police and shifted all employees to remote work as a safety precaution, prioritizing employee safety in the decision to transition to remote work.
