"I stayed in the Waymo for a couple of minutes, just to see,"
"The problem was that, at the beginning, there were a lot of people crossing the streets because there were no traffic lights. So I believe the Waymo just didn't know what to do."
"very dense intersection"
Waymo driverless taxis froze mid-ride across San Francisco during a widespread power outage that left traffic lights dark and halted commerce and transit. The outage affected up to 130,000 customers and closed stores during the holiday shopping period. One passenger, Michele Riva, reported his car continued in less-trafficked areas even with pedestrians crossing, then stopped without notice at a "very dense intersection" with non-working traffic lights. Riva attempted to reach customer support but abandoned the call after about three minutes and walked the remaining blocks. PG&E attributed the outage to a substation fire and restored service to most customers by Sunday.
