In the wake of a devastating ice storm in central Ontario, Team Rubicon, a humanitarian aid group, mobilized quickly to assist those affected. The storm left many residents without power and numerous trees down in Peterborough, prompting the city to declare a state of emergency. The volunteer organization, comprising mainly veterans, coordinated efforts to assess damage, identify unmet needs, and clear debris. Their specialized skills, honed during service, play a crucial role in the recovery process, showcasing the value of their experience in times of crisis.
We like to look for the unmet needs of the community that we're in. So we talked to them, we asked about their unmet needs, about the hydro situation.
[They're] ex-first responders, people who have very specialized skill sets. And when they leave that part of their life, they're left kind of in limbo.
