Etobicoke residents hold rally over concerns about proposed homeless shelter in their area | CBC News
Briefly

Residents of Etobicoke are expressing strong opposition to a proposed homeless shelter due to its planned location near a seniors' residence and two schools. The facility is part of the city's effort to address rising shelter demands and will offer various supportive services. Protesters, including local residents, highlight concerns over safety, especially for children and seniors. Some feel the city did not adequately consult the community before selecting this site, suggesting alternative locations could be more suitable for both the shelter residents and the local community.
To have something right across the street from kids just seems crazy to me to have like, how is a senior who's going to park right here in an alleyway going to feel late at night coming in with their car and parking there with a shelter here?
If they would just talk to us, we could identify sites that would be far better for this community, that would support the people they want to help.
None of us were really made aware that this is happening until it was happening. I don’t think it was appropriate to have the shelter located on a small residential street.
As a parent, I have concerns that the facility would also be providing harm reduction services.
