Sir Keir Starmer has urged local councils to get on with fixing potholes, as Labour pledges an additional £500 million to enhance repairs across the country.
The Department for Transport revealed that the funding will address the pothole issues plaguing the nation's roads, with the equivalent of seven million extra potholes to be fixed by 2025/26.
Recent RAC statistics indicated that their patrols responded to nearly 30,000 pothole-related breakdowns in 2023, marking a 33% increase compared to 2022.
Research from the Liberal Democrats highlighted the most severely affected areas, with Derbyshire identified as having over 90,500 potholes, followed by Lancashire and Northumberland.
