Easter egg prices have surged this year, with leading brands like Lindt and M&S seeing increases of 46% and 40% respectively, despite a decrease in cocoa prices. Investment platform Saxo notes that while cocoa prices have moderated recently, it's too late to influence this year's Easter prices as producers had already secured stocks when costs were high. However, commodity strategist Ole Hansen believes that the decrease could positively impact next year's pricing as manufacturers may consider passing on lower costs to consumers.
"Cocoa futures prices in Sterling, trading on the ICE Futures Europe Exchange, have moderated in recent months... a development that bodes well for prices next Easter."
"Unfortunately, the drop in the past three months has come too late... producers of chocolate probably bought their raw chocolate months ago when prices were elevated."
