A young girl in Galway tragically lost her life after being hit by a delivery truck while cycling near her father. The incident happened at a junction on Saturday, prompting local residents to rush to provide assistance. Despite their efforts, the girl suffered fatal injuries. The truck driver was unharmed. Local officials expressed their sorrow regarding the tragedy, highlighting the community's grief and support for the bereaved family. Authorities are seeking witnesses and camera footage to aid in their investigation of the incident.
"We are always encouraging people to be out and about and active and then this awful tragedy happened. I passed the scene earlier and there are a lot of flowers and balloons where people have been trying to come together to show their support for the family. It's hard to comprehend it all," he added. "No parent should ever have to have a funeral for a child," he said.
People who were in the vicinity at the time rushed to assist and called the emergency services, and also placed a temporary cordon around the girl until they arrived. They also tried to console the girl's distraught father.
