Urgent warning issued for cheddar sold by Tesco and Spar over deadly bacteria fears
Briefly

Supermarkets are recalling batches of various Irish blended cheeses, including Horgans Irish Smoked Cheddar and several Old Irish cheddar variants, due to potential listeria contamination. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) warns consumers to return these products to retailers, as listeria symptoms can mimic flu but may result in severe complications. Consumers are advised to discard recalled items and sanitize any surfaces that may have been in contact with the affected foods, highlighting the serious nature of this food safety concern.
Supermarkets selling a range of Irish blended cheeses have issued an urgent recall over fears batches could be contaminated with the potentially killer bacteria listeria.
Symptoms caused by listeria can be similar to flu and include a high temperature, muscle aches, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.
Although the foods have been recalled, some may still be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers, and the products should be discarded or returned to the point of purchase.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned that listeria poisoning can cause serious complications, such as meningitis.
