What we know so far about the Air India flight 171 crash

An Air India passenger plane, flight 171, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad en route to Gatwick airport. The Boeing 787-8 lost signal five minutes post-takeoff, hitting a residential building housing local doctors. Witnesses reported smoke rising from the crash site. There were discrepancies regarding the number of people onboard; Air India stated 242 individuals were present, including various nationalities. While official casualty figures are pending, local rescue teams reported at least 30 bodies recovered from the wreckage, indicating a tragic outcome.

According to the Flightradar24 website, signal was lost seconds after takeoff when the plane had reached a height of 625ft.
Rescue personnel at the site, however, told Reuters at least 30 bodies had been recovered from a building where the plane came down.
Air India said 242 people were on board, including two pilots and 10 cabin crew.
