2 men arrested after R.I. country club confrontation in which one man was allegedly hit in the head with a golf club
"Chase told police he and his friends were golfing, and that he had hit a ball from the tee box while a group of other golfers were still on the hole's green. "I didn't realize there were people on the green. I hit the ball. They all kind of came up at me and ... I just ended up arguing with them," Chase can be heard telling an officer in a body-worn camera video."
"He said he grabbed his golf club because he was scared "they were going to jump him," and said he was pushed to the ground, the police report states. "They're a lot bigger than me," Chase says in the 41-second video. "When they came up to me, one guy, like, grabbed me and kind of pushed me to the ground and when I got back up, they just kept coming towards me," he said."
Police responded to a large disturbance at East Greenwich Country Club around 7:23 p.m. on Sept. 19. Cameron Chase, 20, faces a felony assault charge after he struck a man in the head with a golf club. Chase said he teed off while other golfers remained on the green, which prompted a confrontation and he was pushed to the ground. Chase said he grabbed his club because he feared being jumped and struck a man as others advanced. Another person allegedly threw a set of clubs into a lake. Officers seized the golf club as evidence and made arrests.
