23-year-old woman fatally struck after car breaks down on Route 18 in New Bedford
"A 23-year-old New Bedford woman died Saturday after she was struck on Route 18 North in the city Friday night when she exited her disabled car, officials said. The Bristol County District Attorney's Office identified the woman as Ruby Quiro Santos in a Sunday statement. Authorities said Santos's 2020 Toyota Camry became disabled in the left lane of Route 18 North on Friday night."
"A 2018 Audi A4 with multiple occupants stopped to assist, and two New Bedford police Ford Explorers with their emergency lights activated arrived at the scene as well. As Santos and another female exited the Camry and walked toward the Audi, a 2018 Honda Accord traveling north struck both pedestrians, as well as the Audi and one of the police vehicles, officials said."
"Massachusetts State Police were then dispatched to the scene at about 9:15 p.m. for reports of a serious crash. All involved were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The second female who was struck remained in critical but stable condition, while others sustained minor injuries or are expected to recover, the DA's office said. The crash remains under investigation."
