American Airlines flight from Boston discontinues landing to avoid departing plane at D.C. airport
Briefly

On Tuesday morning, American Airlines Flight 2246 from Boston had to perform a go-around at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport as instructed by air traffic control. This maneuver was necessary to prevent a collision with another aircraft preparing for takeoff on the same runway. Shortly thereafter, another flight in Chicago also executed a go-around under similar circumstances. American Airlines stated that go-arounds are standard protocol and ensure safety in aviation, especially given recent aviation incidents in North America, including high-profile crashes.
The American flight "landed safely and normally" at National Airport after air traffic control instructed pilots to complete a go-around "to allow another aircraft more time for takeoff."
American has a no-fault go-around policy as a go-around is not an abnormal flight maneuver and can occur nearly every day in the National Airspace System.
