China has responded decisively to Donald Trump's newly imposed trade tariffs by introducing a corresponding tariff of 34 percent on US imports. This retaliation follows Trump's announcement aimed at penalizing Chinese goods, which China claims undermines its rights and constitutes unilateral bullying. Effective April 10th, the same day as the US tariff initiation, China also prohibited 11 American firms from operating within its borders and placed strict restrictions on the export of rare earth elements vital for technology sectors.
China's finance ministry stated that the US tariff on Chinese goods 'seriously undermines China's legitimate rights and interests,' labeling it a 'typical unilateral bullying practice.'
In a move to counter the newly imposed tariffs, China announced its own charges on US imports, implementing a levy at the same 34 percent rate.
