The shooter was a 56-year-old trans parent who transitioned in 2020 and used the names Roberta Dorgan and Roberta Esposito. The shooting occurred at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket during a high school hockey game, killing ex-wife Rhonda Dorgan and their adult son Aidan Dorgan. Rhonda Dorgan's parents and a family friend were critically wounded. The shooter carried a Glock 10 mm and a SIG Sauer P226 and had attended their child's games previously. After at least three bystanders intervened, the shooter reached for a second gun intending to take their own life. There was a history of family disputes involving conflict over the shooter's gender identity, including an earlier reported threat following gender-affirming surgery.
