New York county's ban on wearing masks in public leads to first arrest

The new Nassau County Mask Transparency Act, passed just this month, prohibits wearing masks in public places, except for medical or religious reasons, allowing police to enforce it rigorously.

Critics of the mask law argue that it gives excessive power to the police, risking the possibility of racial profiling and unjustified stops, especially of young people of color.
