Trade updates: China levies 34% tariff on US goods DW 04/04/2025
Briefly

In a response to the US's recent implementation of reciprocal tariffs, China announced increased tariffs on US-imported goods, effective April 10. Following US President Trump's announcement of a minimum 10% tariff, Beijing implemented its own heightened tariffs. This resulted in a cumulative tariff rate of 54% on certain imports from China. Additionally, China is imposing export controls on key rare earth materials and is pursuing legal action at the WTO, claiming that US tariffs violate international trade rules and threaten global economic stability.
The United States' imposition of so-called 'reciprocal tariffs' seriously violates WTO rules, seriously damages the legitimate rights and interests of WTO members, and seriously undermines the rules-based multilateral trading system.
It is a typical unilateral bullying practice that endangers the stability of the global economic and trade order. China firmly opposes this.
