Reports suggest that Elon Musk may be stepping back from his role with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), signaling an end to his collaboration with Donald Trump. Musk announced during Tesla's earnings call that his focus on DOGE would significantly decrease, a shift associated with Tesla's poor financial results. Analysts suggest this exit marks a critical departure from the political sphere, which has been riddled with challenges for Musk. The implications for DOGE and its perceived cost savings initiatives are uncertain post-Musk's departure.
"This was an off-ramp for Musk out of the Trump White House," says Dan Ives, managing director and senior equity research analyst at Wedbush Securities.
"If Trump hasn't got bored with DOGE, there's still a chance that he might send a check to voters with a nominal saving," says Bruce Daisley.
