Trump extends TikTok sale deadline again-this time by 75 days
Briefly

President Trump signed an executive order to extend TikTok's operations in the U.S. for another 75 days to allow further negotiations towards bringing the platform under American ownership. This move comes after Congress mandated that TikTok be divested from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, due to national security concerns by January 19. Despite offers from U.S. companies to acquire shares, ByteDance has maintained that TikTok is not for sale, raising ongoing national security issues.
Congress had mandated that the platform be divested from China by Jan. 19 or barred in the U.S. on national security grounds, but Trump moved unilaterally to extend the deadline to this weekend.
My Administration has been working very hard on a Deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress... which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days.
If the extension keeps control of TikTok's algorithm under ByteDance's authority, those national security concerns persist.
