Steam maintains a stronghold in PC gaming despite several attempts from prominent companies like Amazon, EA, and Epic Games. Amazon's former VP of Prime Gaming, Ethan Evans, outlined failed attempts to disrupt Steam's market reign by acquiring a small game store, building their own platform, and launching a game streaming service. Despite size and ambition, competitors failed to account for Steam's successful integration of social networking and gaming services, highlighting a misunderstanding of consumer habits.

We underestimated what made consumers use Steam. Size and visibility would not suffice against Steam's integrated offerings.
