Sony Reveals New PS5 Sales Figures, Says A Mix Of Single-Player And Live-Service Games Are Coming
Briefly

Sony reported a shipment of 3.8 million PS5 consoles in Q2 FY2024, a 29% decline compared to last year. The console's lifetime total now stands at 65.5 million units, nearing the PS4's total of 67.5 million at the same lifespan stage.
Despite the sales dip, Sony's Game & Network Services division saw a $7 billion revenue, a 12% increase year-over-year, primarily driven by third-party games, notably 'Black Myth: Wukong,' which achieved 18 million copies sold in its first two weeks.
Sony acknowledged past setbacks such as the cancellation of 'The Last of Us' multiplayer and removal of 'Concord,' sharing that these experiences inform their future strategy in live-service games while maintaining a balanced portfolio of single-player and multiplayer offerings.
The company emphasized ongoing development for both single-player titles, like 'Ghost of Yotei,' and live-service games such as Haven Studio's 'Fairgames,' but announced no major first-party releases until April 2025.
