Starting June 1, women prescribed Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) will receive the medication free of charge, along with coverage for a dispensing fee of €5. Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill emphasized that participation from community pharmacies is voluntary but crucial for facilitating this initiative. Each participating pharmacy will also receive a once-off grant of €1,000. This move advances previous Budget 2025 measures that only covered medication costs. The government is prioritizing support for women's health during menopause.
Women prescribed HRT will be able to access the product free of charge and pharmacies will receive a €5 dispensing fee as of June 1.
I have written to all community pharmacies today asking that they support and facilitate the women in their communities to access State-funded HRT products and medicines.
This means that women would be able to access the product and medicines at no charge, including dispensing fees in participating pharmacies from June 1.
Improving care before, during, and after menopause is a priority for me and for the Government.
