The creators of 'The Handmaid's Tale' promise that the sixth and final season will balance dark moments with themes of catharsis and redemption. Yvonne Strahovski, who portrays Serena, emphasizes the need for lightness amid the show's inherent darkness. Showrunner Chang notes the alarming decline in women's rights during the show's run, particularly referencing the impact of losing Roe v. Wade on their storytelling. Cast members indicate the continued relevance of the show's themes, highlighting the necessity of showcasing resistance in today's socio-political landscape, which resonates deeply with viewers.
We wouldn't be The Handmaid's Tale if we didn't have those dark moments... We did want to bring in more lightness and levity.
As a woman, I have fewer rights now than when I started on the show... And that does start to get infused into our writing.
It's certainly been in our consciousness... It's a reason why you need a show like this, about resistance.
I don't know when this book and this material has ever not been relevant.
