Briefly

Rose Girone, believed to be the oldest Holocaust survivor, died at 110 in a nursing home in New York. Born in 1912 in Poland, she survived Nazi persecution, including witnessing the burning of synagogues. Girone's husband was arrested and sent to Buchenwald but freed, leading them to flee to Shanghai before eventually settling in the U.S. in 1947. Her life exemplified resilience as she transformed her experience into advocacy and opened knitting shops, becoming known for her strong spirit and survival story that inspired many.
"Her life was a testimony of survival and strength," the Israeli embassy in Berlin said.
"She was a strong lady, resilient. She made the best of terrible situations," said Girone's daughter, Reha Bennicasa.
Girone witnessed the Nazis burn down the synagogue and burn Jewish books during Kristallnacht.
She moved to Shanghai on a Chinese visa with her husband after he was released from a concentration camp.
