BIRI and MACH arquitetos have completed the NINHO - João de Barro Module at Vila Ninho School in Brazil, focusing on community involvement and adaptable educational environments. Situated in the Cerrado region of Minas Gerais, the school employs a modular grid design and natural materials, emphasizing the connection between physical spaces and learning. Since 2018, the initiative has expanded to accommodate more students, supported by an eco-friendly construction approach that encourages parental participation in the building process. The project aims to create sustainable and innovative environments for community education.
The architectural proposal is based on a modular grid of 2x2 meters and construction modules of 36 square meters, allowing flexibility and adaptation of spaces.
NINHO fosters community participation and adaptable learning spaces, exploring the role of the physical environment in pedagogical practice.
The school has begun a planned expansion process commencing from 2024, with its first phase accommodating up to 20 students each.
Its design is guided by sustainability, integration with the environment, and pedagogical innovation, transforming the built environment into an active agent in education.
