Every Wall in This $1,500 Bedroom Makeover Is Seriously Impressive
Briefly

In a quest to modernize his bedroom, designer Mitesh Trambidia transformed the dated gray walls into a vibrant tribute to his Indian heritage. Inspired by the City Palace in Jaipur, Mitesh applied a faux limewash treatment to three walls and introduced scalloped arches reminiscent of Rajasthan palaces. He documented his experience, learning through YouTube tutorials, and found the process more accessible than expected. Mitesh aimed to reflect boldness and personalization in his design, significantly enhancing the room's sentiment while drawing from his cultural roots.
When I originally created it, I was proud of the DIY stenciled wall; it felt cohesive and cozy. Over the years it has felt not as personal.
I was inspired by the City Palace in Jaipur, India, and wanted to bring in elements of that building. As someone with roots in India, I felt a connection.
I watched several tutorial videos on YouTube prior to getting started; it was much easier than I expected and cheaper than a real limewash wall.
I love how the room brings in elements from my heritage while still feeling fresh; I am most proud of the painted mural wall.
