Inside the Toronto Home of a Collector Who Specializes in Black Art
Briefly

Kenneth Montague's journey to becoming a notable dentist and collector of Black art stems from his Jamaican immigrant parents who nurtured his appreciation for medicine and design. Growing up in Windsor, Ontario, where he felt disconnected from Black culture, he found inspiration in Detroit's rich African American heritage, particularly influenced by artworks like James Van Der Zee's photography. Today, he lives in a reimagined Arts and Crafts home with his wife, Sarah Aranha, showcasing his extensive Wedge Collection of Black art, bridging both his professions and passions.
Over the years, Kenneth and I bonded over art and architecture chatting in his dental chair during appointments, so in many respects our synergy for design and style began long before this project.
My mom was a dietitian and my father was an industrial arts teacher who made beautiful furniture that I grew up with and still live with now.
