Qingshan Culture Hall / MOMENTUM Architects
Briefly

The Qingshan Cultural Hall in Hangzhou's Qingshan Village emphasizes the interplay between architecture, local community, and nature. It critiques formalism by focusing on the relationships between fragmented architectural elements, enabling sunlight and air to weave through the structure. The design features a folded staircase reminiscent of mountain trails, fostering interaction among visitors. Utilizing local materials, including mud plaster and bamboo, enhances traditional aesthetics and establishes a sense of place, making the structure not only a functional space but a connector of social and environmental threads.
The project establishes a dialogue between architecture, the community, and the natural environment, with a focus on the interaction among the building's fragmented forms.
This design challenges superficial formalism by analyzing the gaps between architectural components, leading to a more organic experience for the community.
The folded staircase mimics natural trails, linking spaces and encouraging social interaction while allowing for flexibility in how the community engages with the hall.
Local craftsmanship, using materials from the village, preserves traditional architectural charm and enhances the building's integration within its cultural context.
