Necklace Villa, designed by 1110 Office for Architecture on Awaji Island, is a unique rental home that features a circular arrangement of rooms around a central dog-friendly courtyard. In light of rapid developments transforming the island into a 'theme park-like' locale, the design aims to embrace the island's natural beauty while ensuring seclusion from surrounding views. The villa's tiered layout facilitates a seamless interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces, using steps as dividers and minimizing wall usage to enhance flow and accessibility for pets and humans alike.
Awaji Island is currently undergoing rapid changes. In response to the landscape becoming more theme park-like, we considered what aspects will remain unchanged.
The characteristic of courtyard house - being closed on the outside and open on the inside - was deconstructed by changing the scale of individual rooms.
