This year at The Game Awards, if your game wasn't melodramatic, mechanically innovative, beautifully presented and aggressively French, it didn't stand a chance. The Game Awards 2025 wrapped up on the evening of Thursday, December 11 with a record-breaking showing by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from Sandfall Interactive. The game received the most nominations and wins in the show's 12-year history.

Jafar Panahi, who, it was revealed by his lawyer shortly before the event, has been sentenced in absentia to one year in prison and a two-year travel ban for engaging in "propaganda activities" against the state, was on hand to accept awards for Best Director, Best International Feature and Best Original Screenplay.

The BBC Women's Footballer of the Year award launched in 2015. It is decided by a global public vote after a panel of experts - including coaches, players, administrators and journalists - selects a five-player shortlist. Here are the previous winners: 2015: Asisat Oshoala Nigeria and Liverpool forward Asisat Oshoala was the very first BBC Women's Footballer of the Year. Then 20, Oshoala was player of the tournament at the Under-20s World Cup in Canada and helped Nigeria's senior team win the African Women's Championship. Also shortlisted were Veronica Boquete, Nadine Kessler, Kim Little and Marta.

Bargatze introduced his disastrous evening-long bit by taking several boring minutes to claim that he would donate $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, but would take away money if winners' speeches went over 45 seconds. This is an ugly idea, mean and counterproductive. People watch awards shows to see the awards, and most would probably rather you cut the host and presenter yammering.

While the number of entries has been shrinking since the competition began five years ago, the quality of canned wines is improving significantly. This year, 40% of the entries received gold medals, indicating a noticeable rise in quality compared to typical competitions where less than 30% achieve gold status. The judging focused on whether the wines met expectations based on their labels, emphasizing a more practical approach to evaluating canned wines.

Despite being awarded, many winners at the Pub and Bar Awards 2025 may best be described as gastropubs, highlighting a shift away from traditional pub culture.
