An estimated two thousand Bay Area residents flocked to San Francisco on Sunday, Jan. 18 to celebrate the life of Claude, the California Academy of Sciences' iconic albino alligator. Claude died last month at 30 years old after he was diagnosed with liver cancer. "[Claude] was a steady presence, teaching my children without words about curiosity, about respect for living things and about the joy of simply observing the world as it is," California State Assemblymember Catherine Stefani noted from the stage. "In a city full of icons, Claude became one of the most beloved without ever seeking the spotlight."
Laketran and Geauga Transit, both located in northeastern Ohio, will honor the life and legacy of Rosa Parks through a weeklong tribute recognizing her courage and the lasting impact of her actions on civil rights in America. Rosa Parks, born February 4, became a symbol of strength and resistance in 1955 when she refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, AL. Her decision helped ignite the Montgomery Bus Boycott and propelled the nation forward in the fight for equality. Today, she is remembered as the "Mother of the Modern-Day Civil Rights Movement."
A tractor-led guard of honour and photographs of family and friends represented the life of car crash victim Alan McCluskey at his funeral today, as he was remembered "as being made from everything good". St. Peter and Paul's Church in Drumconrath, Co Meath, was packed to capacity for Mr McCluskey's funeral, with standing room only as mourners filled every pew and lined the walls.
In a statement released through the Metropolitan Police, Mr Broadhurst's next of kin said that his loss has left a deep void. He worked hard his whole life, never shying away from improving his community, they said. His love for animals showed the gentle heart behind his strong work ethic, and his passion for Liverpool FC was something he loved to share with others.
