A three-mile stretch of Highway 99 was closed for more than five hours Saturday after dense fog led to a massive vehicle pileup in Tulare County, about 40 miles north of Bakersfield. Several people sustained mild to moderate injuries and some were taken to a local hospital, according to CHP Visalia.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KABC) -- A massive pileup involving more than 40 cars shut down part of Highway 58 in Bakersfield on Tuesday, and investigators believe fog may have been a contributing factor. California Highway Patrol received reports around 8:07 a.m. regarding a multi-vehicle crash blocking all eastbound lanes of State Route 58, east of Tower Line Road. A total of 43 vehicles were involved.

In a milestone affecting one of the most scenic drives in the United States, Caltrans crews have finished clearing a massive landslide blocking Highway 1 in Big Sur. The winding two-lane roadway reopened at noon Wednesday, allowing motorists from the Bay Area to drive to Southern California all the way along the coast for the first time in three years. This vital corridor is the gateway to California's coast and the lifeblood of the Big Sur economy, and today it's restored, said Gov. Gavin Newsom.

All lanes of westbound Highway 24 are closed at Highway 13 after a big rig carrying several tons of cardboard overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A big rig overturned this morning (Jan. 18) on northbound Highway 101, just south of Redwood City, after a collision that left the two drivers with minor injuries. One lane remained closed as of about 7 Monday night. CHP officers responded to the wreck near Marsh Road at about 10:50 a.m. and found the big rig on its side on the righthand shoulder.

However, like other major transit agencies such as BART, the MTS kept things moving after the pandemic through one-time emergency funds from federal and state subsidies.

New carpool lane hours are coming next month to Highway 101 in Sonoma and Marin counties, Caltrans announced Wednesday. Beginning in late February, high occupancy vehicle hours will be 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The new schedule, based on a Caltrans traffic analysis this month, will cover the stretch between the Richardson Bay Bridge in Marin County and Windsor in Sonoma County.
