Several people were injured Thursday afternoon in a multi-vehicle highway crash in Boston, according to Massachusetts State Police. Troopers responded to the crash on Interstate 93 South near Exit 15 at about 3:30 p.m., police said in a statement. As of Thursday evening, one person is "in serious condition." Fire officials and emergency responders were on the scene to render aid to the crash victims, according to police. The left two highway lanes were closed.
Police believe that the officer was driving the Jeep westbound on Route 139 "at a high rate of speed and passed a tow truck by crossing over solid double yellow lines into the eastbound lane," according to the preliminary investigation. "The Jeep then attempted to pass a second vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, again crossing the solid double yellow lines, and struck an eastbound Honda Civic head-on."
